Let’s Talk…Social Justice with Lorna Munro

Today on Let’s Talk…Social Justice, Kevin chats to the inimitable poet, writer, radio producer and podcaster, Lorna Munro. Lorna, or ‘Yilinhi’, is a Wiradjuri and Gamilaroi woman, multidisciplinary artist, podcaster, and regular radio host at Sydney’s Radio Skid Row. In this wide-ranging conversation, Kevin and Lorna talk about the importance of sovereign storytelling, and the power of poetry as a site of political resistance and refusal.

And we learn a bit about some of the current struggles for justice in Lorna’s own communities in and around Redfern and Waterloo on Gadigal country in so-called sydney.

We hear about continuing dispossession and exclusion of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from the area through processes of gentrification and over-policing, and the ongoing fight of the community to hold on to a place steeped in radical Black history.
