Let’s Talk – The Arts with Boneta-Marie Mabo

This week on Let’s Talk…The Arts, Rachael catches up with all-round icon, Boneta-Marie Mabo.

If you’ve spent much time in and around Meanjin, you’ve probably been lucky enough to see Boneta-Marie Mabo hard at work on public art projects in and around the city. In 2016, she was the inaugural artist-in-residence for the State Library of Queensland’s kuril dhagun Indigenous centre.

In 2015 she won People’s Choice award in the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Telstra Art Award for her art celebrating the life of her activist grandfather, the late Eddie Koiki Mabo. And for over a decade, Neta-Rie has lead the Sisters Inside Young Indigenous Art Program, combining commitments to prison abolition with her art practice to directly support incarcerated women and their families.
