LET’S TALK-APOLOGY ANNIVERSARY

VIEW ALL EPISODES

Eighteen years ago, former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd stood in Parliament House and delivered the National Apology to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples — a historic acknowledgement of the profound harm caused to the Stolen Generations.

This year, that moment was honored in a powerful community gathering hosted by Link-Up Queensland and Queensland Performing Arts Centre. The free event brought people together for reflection, connection and healing — with moving guest speakers, live performances, and space to yarn and remember.

Hosted by Geoff Richardson PSM (Meriam, Kuku Yalanji/Djabugay), and featuring guest speaker Commissioner Natalie Lewis (Gamilaraay), the gathering honoured the strength and resilience of Stolen Generations survivors and their descendants, while acknowledging the ongoing journey toward truth and justice.

In this special episode of Let’s Talk, Karen Dorante was at this local event to capture and share the stories, reflections and hopes shared on the day — bringing stories of survival, resistance, healing and the work still to be done.

This is more than a commemoration. It’s a reminder that the Apology was a beginning — and the journey continues.
