
The latest data from the Australian Institute of Criminology has revealed the rate Indigenous women are killed is up to six times higher than non-Indigenous women by intimate partners or family members, and the numbers aren’t going down. First Nations academic, Dr Marlene Longbottom, Associate Professor at the Indigenous Education and Research Centre at JCU, has a body of research which focuses on violence against Indigenous women. She told Karen Dorante Australia’s legal system does little to support survivors and the grieving families seeking justice.
