This week on Let’s Talk – Black Politics, Chelsea & David catch up with Larrakia, Wadjigan and Central Arrente lawyer and educator, Dr. Eddie Cubillo. Eddie is recognised nationally and internationally for his experience and expertise in Indigenous governance and justice for First Nations Peoples.
Chelsea, David and Eddie catch up to reflect on the politics of Black knowledge production, especially in relation to law and justice. Eddie talks through his own experiences as a lawyer and legal educator, and struggle to have Indigenous knowledge respected in white institutions. They reflect on the toll it takes to keep up the fight, and the specific ways that the law operates to both maintain and launder the racism of the colony. And they reflect on the power that comes from solidarity and shared struggle: the joy that is possible when we learn together, when we fight together, and when we stand our ground.
