This week on Let’s Talk – Black Arts, Rachael “embarks on a powerful journey with Olivia Adams, a proud Wulli Wulli artist and trailblazer in contemporary dance” to learn more about her upcoming show, Matriarchs. Matriarchs is on at Metro Arts this month, and it explores questions of identity through “the stories of the women who have come before; Mothers, Grandmothers, Great Grandmothers”, exploring how their experiences as Indigenous women have shaped them and their descendants.  The show is described as “a journey of reconnecting and intergenerational healing”, and it premieres as part of Dance24 Festival at Metro Arts.

In this beautiful and warm conversation, Rachael and Olivia reflect on the very personal process of making a show like this, and how it can serve as a site for healing and justice. They talk about the physicality of the work, and the role that dance has always played in creating space for culture, connection, and communication.
