LT – Black Power: Free West Papua

VIEW ALL EPISODES

Tune in for the first part of a special 2-part series on the ongoing struggle in West Papua. This week, Ruby catches up with Amatus Akouboo Douw to learn a bit more about the ongoing struggle to Free West Papua. Amatus introduces us to the history of West Papua and the long history of colonial invasion and occupation that West Papuans have endured. He talks us through the legacy and power of Papuan resistance in West Papua, as well as the current atrocities being committed against West Papuans in the present moment.

As always on Let’s Talk Black Power, this episode is a reminder that colonisation, racial violence, military invasion, police brutality and dispossession are global systems that cause death and destruction wherever they take root. This means, as Angela Davis reminds us, that for justice to exist anywhere, these systems must be uprooted everywhere. Papua Merderka, Free Palestine, and this Always Was, Always Will Be Aboriginal Land.
