LT – Black Power – LIVE NAIDOC SPECIAL with Ruby Wharton & guests

VIEW ALL EPISODES

Tune in for a massive DOUBLE EPISODE of Let’s Talk Black Power, recorded LIVE as part of our very special station NAIDOC launch brekky. Over two huge hours, Ruby catches up with her Dad, veteran Brisbane Black activist and community organiser Uncle Wayne Coco Wharton. They talk about the origins of NAIDOC and the long, international struggle for justice for Indigenous peoples across the globe. Uncle Coco shares some of his own experiences of the Aboriginal justice movement over the past five decades, and the lessons he’s learned from his time on the frontline of the struggle. Next up, we hear from Triple A icon, Tabatha Saunders. Tabs shares some of her insights into the extraordinary 20 year legacy of Let’s Talk, and the work she’s been doing to build a catalogue of the Let’s Talk archive. Later, Ruby catches up with one of our best-loved Let’s Talk hosts, the brilliant Gomeroi Kooma podcaster and broadcaster, Boe Spearim. They reflect on their shared experiences coming of age in the struggle for land rights and liberation, and what it means to take seriously their responsibility to “keep the fire burning.” Last up, we catch up with two of the current Let’s Talk hosts, Rachael Sarra & David Williams, who share their reflections on NAIDOC, the best-and-worst NAIDOC after parties, and why it’s so important to remember the power of Black Joy.

A huge, joyful, glorious introduction to a massive NAIDOC, and yet another reminder of the importance of Aboriginal community media.
