Housing Justice
In this series, Kevin tackles the housing crisis currently facing communities across so-called australia. Most listeners will know – possibly firsthand – that it is increasingly difficult to find affordable, quality housing in most cities in so-called Australia. For everyday people, housing costs have skyrocketed, with affordable rental properties now almost impossible for anyone living on payments like Newstart or Jobseeker.
In our local community, more and more people are sleeping rough, with communities forming around people forced to live in tents because they can’t find or afford housing. So it’s clear that there’s a housing crisis, and in this series, we’re asking how it’s impacting Blackfullas around the country. We’re looking at the ways that housing injustice is linked to deeper processes of colonisation and occupation; and we’re asking what housing justice might look like from a sovereign Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspective.
