This week on Let’s Talk Arts, Rachael Sarra ventures beyond the Triple A Studios for a super special Let’s Talk excursion! We head over the river to Fortitude Valley to catch up with the wonderful Mardigan & Scottish artist, curator and current general manager of Outer Space, Georgia Hayward.

Georgia’s practice explores the influence of public space on contemporary social dynamics and community development. Utilising the urban environment as both subject and substrate, she analyses the construction of colonisation and capitalism. Georgia investigates these ideas through “social, spatial and digital practices to engage with polyphonic and polycentric readings of public space – cultivating a collaborative approach to artmaking, expanding community capacity and cohesion.”

In this rich and joyful conversation, Rachael & Georgia talk about Georgia’s own practice as an artist, as well as her work with not-for-profit arts organisations like Outer Space. They reflect on the value of art in creating physical spaces for communities to gather, dream, talk, and wonder, together, and the significance of arts organisations like Outer Space in enabling and supporting new generations of emerging and mid-career artists.
