This week on Let’s Talk – Black Arts, Rachael catches up with Gamilaroi collaborators Dominique Chen & Jacob Birch. Dom and Jacob talk us through the intersections of their work – Jacob, as a researcher and academic working in regenerative agriculture and nutritional science, and Dom as a practicing artist, arts educator and community organiser. We learn about the ways that Indigenous knowledges serve to challenge colonial labels like “arts” and “science”, inviting a holistic engagement with Country, community and culture. Jacob introduces us to some of his research into Gamilaraay native grain foodways, and Dom catches us up on her PhD research into relational creative practices of urban food and medicine gardening.
