This week on Let’s Talk – Black Politics, Chelsea & David dig into the referendum results and the racism they laid bare. They talk through the mainstream media commentary on the referendum, the violence of the whole process for Blackfullas, and the “moves to innocence” being made by settlers determined to locate the “problem” of racism in someone else. Reflecting on the calls for a time of “silence” and “mourning”, they propose instead that this is a time for Blackfullas to stand in their ongoing power and sovereignty; to once and for all retire “hope” as a strategy for appealing to settlers; and to stand in uncompromising solidarity with each other and with Indigenous peoples’ globally.

Echoing the words of Darumbal and South Sea Islander scholar and journalist Amy McQuire, they reflect that now “is not the time to be silent. We must stand – not only for each other – but for our Indigenous brothers and sisters in Palestine.”
