Let’s Talk…Indigenous Climate Justice with Dale Ruska

This week on Let’s Talk…Social Justice, Kevin Yow Yeh catches up with Goenpul Goorie Dale Ruska to learn about the history of struggles for environmental justice on North Stradbroke Island. Continuing Kevin’s series on the intersections of climate justice and Indigenous sovereignty, this episode focuses on the ways that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities have consistently pushed back against destructive mining and development projects.

As a respected Goenpul Elder, Dale talks us through many generations of struggle on the island: from the fight for land rights, to campaigns against sand mining, and more recently, the work of the Quandamooka Truth Embassy in pushing back against a new proposal for an interactive whale centre at Point Lookout.
