It’s Referendum Week! And so this week on Let’s Talk – Social Justice, Kevin continues his series on Black Queer & Trans justice by looking back at the struggles, insights & lessons of the Same Sex Marriage plebiscite. To do this, he’s joined by proud Gunditjmara, Bindal, Yorta Yorta and Torres Strait Islander person Tarneen Onus-Williams. Tarneen is a community organiser for Warriors of the Aboriginal Resistance, working on Invasion Day, Black Deaths in Custody, and Stop the Forced Closure of Aboriginal Community campaigns. They are a filmmaker, writer, and organiser.

Listen in as Kevin and Tarneen talk through some of their experiences of the Same Sex Marriage plebiscite, and what it means for Black Queer & Trans communities to go through two national debates within a decade. They talk about the violence of these national conversations, but also some of the lessons that we might draw from the Same Sex Marriage debate for this current referendum moment. Whether you’re still thinking about what to do this Saturday, or you’ve made up your mind, this conversation is not to be missed.
