This week on Let’s Talk – Black Knowing, Chelsea & David share an important, heavy, and essential conversation with Uncle Rick Hampson Senior. Uncle Rick is the father of Ricky Dougie Hampson Jnr, who died just hours after being discharged from Dubbo Hospital in 2021. In this tough and powerful conversation, Uncle Rick talks about Dougie’s life and the circumstances that led up to his death in 2021, as well as the long and continuing struggle for a coronial inquest to investigate the decisions that led to his death.

Together, Chelsea, David & Uncle Rick talk about the racism of the health system in so-called australia, and the urgent necessity of structural changes to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people can access meaningful health care, free of racism. Uncle Rick talks about the ongoing Justice for Dougie campaign (#JusticeforDougie), and invites listeners to support the family and community in using the coronial inquest to push for meaningful changes to ensure that no more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people die in this country from preventable and treatable conditions.
