Let’s Talk…The Arts with Ivy Minniecon

This week on Let’s Talk…The Arts, Rachael takes a trip to Outer Space to take a sneak peak at the debut solo exhibition of Kuku Yalanji, Kabi Kabi, Gureng Gureng & South Sea Islander artist, weaver, business-owner and parent Ivy Minniecon.

Ivy’s extraordinary exhibition, Ngana Us, is on at Outer Space gallery in the Judith Wright Centre until the 2nd of September. The exhibition “pays homage to family and Country, using the traditional Kuku Yalanji weave from Country and indexical prints…which act as a conduit to forming connections to land, Country, family, community, spirit and ancestry.”

In this rich, deep and emotional conversation, Rachael & Ivy talk through Ivy’s conception of weaving as a healing methodology; and the power of art as a way of working through some of life’s toughest challenges.

Ivy shares her own story of coming into her practice as an artist, and learning to heal her own wounds while building power and possibility for her family and community.
